It is with sad regret that the Franklin County Fair observes the passing of Renee Durant, who left this world too soon on December 1st at age 70.
Renee devoted her life to her family, her farm, and her community. She and her late husband Jim loved the fair. Their Dur-Crest Holsteins were exhibited by Jim, Renee, and their four children at our fair for 35 years. Renee was a 4-H leader for 40 years and served as the committee chairperson for the Franklin County Dairy Princess Program for many years. In addition, Renee was the founder and director of the Bombay Food Pantry, and served as the cafeteria manager for the Salmon River Central School for 30 years.
After Jim and Renee sold their cows, their fair involvement did not end. Renee and her daughters Trudy and Heather owned and operated the Farmers Kitchen food trailer, located between the fair cattle barn and the commercial building, for the past 18 years. It is the fair's hope that the next generation of Durants continue with their popular eatery.
Thank you Renee for your lifelong dedication to the Franklin County Fair for well over 60 years.
Donations in Renee's memory can be made to the Bombay Food Pantry, in care of her son James F Durant, at 135 River Road, Bombay, NY 12914.
